Heather’s art practice is rooted in her experience as a regenerative farmer, and her deep appreciation for the many living beings that work together to sustain and nurture the land - from plants, fungi and microbes to animals and humans.

Her paintings explore connection, trust, love and appreciation, using line, colour and value to capture the energy and complexity of a thriving landscape. Working primarily with acrylic, charcoal, pencil and ink, Heather begins with playful mark-making before building layers into more considered and intricate paintings. Her work often responds to the changing seasons, with her paintings evolving alongside the landscapes that inspire them.

Heather is also interested in exploring natural pigments, bringing her practise even closer to the materials and environments that inform it.

A self-taught artist, Heather began taking her painting practice seriously about two years ago, supported by a regular art group and a range of short courses. Since then, her art work has been selected for a number of exhibitions and prizes, including the RBSA Summer Show, VAS Annual Members Show, Common Ground: The Living Landscape at Kirkcudbright Galleries, and the Jackson’s Art Prize extended long list.
